Snap Server 4500
Overview
With
over 130,000 servers shipped and over 50 Industry
awards, Snap Appliance® is the undisputed leader in
Network Attached Storage. The Snap Server® 4500 is a
rack-optimized 1U server that combines
industry-leading performance and scalability with an
unbeatable feature set. Every Snap Server 4500 can
support up to two Snap Disk 10 expansion arrays for
easy to manage, best-in-class storage expansion.
Combine all of this with a low cost of acquisition,
remote administration, no client license fees, and
minimal ongoing administration, and it’s easy to see
why Snap Servers deliver capacity without complexity.
Benefits
The Snap Server 4500
is an ideal solution for:• File Sharing — Store
large, frequently accessed files on a Snap Server to
speed up performance of your application server(s).•
Nearline Storage — Snap Servers are a simple,
cost-effective way to consolidate less frequently
accessed data and still provide instantaneous access
unlike offline storage such as tape.• Online Backup
— Use fast, disk-based Snap Servers as a target for
daily backups of other servers to address shrinking
backup windows.• Remote Office Server — Simple
installation and browser-based management make Snap
Servers ideal for remote sites with little or no IT
support staff. • Desktop/ Laptop Backup — Every
Snap Server includes an unlimited user license copy of
PowerQuest® DataKeeper™ software for automating
backup and restore of Windows clients.

Multiple File System Options
|
The Snap Server® 4500 can be
configured for enhanced performance or maximum
file protection. Options include:
- RAID 5 (disk striping with parity):
For each array, the size of one disk is
reserved for parity checking. An array of 4
disks yields 725GB for usable capacity for
the 1TB model; 475GB usable for the 640GB
model.
- RAID 1 (disk mirroring): Second
drive duplicates the first drive for
maximum data protection (50% usable
capacity).
- RAID 0 (disk striping): Large,
virtual drive with data striped across all
drives of the array. No loss in usable
capacity.
- Individual Independent Disks:
Four separate drives, each seen as a
separate volume (JBOD).
